Clinical Social Worker and Counsellor

Meaghan holds a Bachelor and Masters in Social Work and has recently completed her PhD. She has been working with people for 20 years in a variety of contexts. Her roles have included clinical social work counselling, management within the non-Government sector, community development and capacity building. She has lectured postgraduate social work students for Latrobe University and continues to facilitate professional development workshops for social and community workers.
She is committed to respectful practice and a strength-based approach to counselling. Her counselling expertise includes working with people experiencing depression and anxiety, including pre- and post-natal depression, addictions including gambling, and has a particular interest in women's issues such as health and fertility.
She has extensive experience working with Indigenous and culturally diverse communities and feels that this adds to her understanding and valuing each person's unique story. Her work and commitment to social work has been acknowledged with several awards including recognition of excellent practice from State Government.

Meaghan is an accredited Mental Health Social Worker, which indicates that she has been accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers as having specialist mental health skills and experience. Accredited individuals have particular expertise in helping individuals whose mental health disorders co-exist with other problems such as family distress, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment, disability, poverty and trauma. They seek to identify factors influencing the person's mental health problems and focus on building strengths and augmenting social supports.

Meaghan works holistically, valuing your unique story and acknowledging your journey and the experiences that have influenced your life. This includes your family and environment, culture, heritage and your values and beliefs. She views challenges and problems as issues we all experience, rather than allowing them to define who we are. She believes in the capacity for everyone to make positive and lasting change in their lives. Her work is underpinned by the premise and that we are all our own best experts, with resources and strengths which can be drawn upon in a positive therapeutic relationship. She is passionate about social work, and the holistic way social work clinicians can work with individuals, families and groups to meet their full potential.
